Hi! My name is Jessica Shankman and I'm 12 years old. I really love animals and wish to be a veterinarian when I grow up. I'm sure many people wish to be a veterinarian so with the help of this site I will help you be the best there could be.
What exactly are veterinarians, though? Children who grow up in today's cities think of them as people who save their cats and dogs. Vets (Veterinarians) do not only work in urban cities, but also in rural communities. Farmers who own livestock rely on vets to keep their animals disease-free. Birth control is another issue, and farmers wish to increase the animal's productivity. If there were no vets and an epidemic, a deadly contagious disease, affects one farm, this farm would be out of business. Today vets are called in not only to cure or prevent animal diseases, they also manage inspecting meat for humans, preserving wildlife, keeping exotic beasts healthy, looking after the priceless and famous race horses and their breeding stock, and caring for the helpless laboratory creatures used for research. There are so many areas for veterinary medicine that one veterinarian would spend all of his/her career doing only one of the above.
Being a veterinarian is loads of fun because you are saving the creatures of our earth, but the only thing not so fun is the animal's life would be in your hands. I wouldn't mind the risk because I'm helping the animal I love.
